"Julian's Ocean "© The original was painted on illustration board, size 28" by 38"; Date 1990. Julian's Ocean was painted as a response to our first born son. The imagery focuses on a theme of "The Great Mother" presiding over a secure and contented family scene. An oceanic 'mother earth,' is evident in the center of the piece, transparent and graceful. The father is more remote and takes the part of 'father sky' (light) as espoused by various ancient traditions. Colors are saturated for the most part and the background is multi-layered using the airbrush. Final details are implemented by the smallest of sable brushes. As with most pieces, traditional and academic work are blended with contemporary techniques. Questions regarding 'licensing' of this image for commercial projects are welcome.
