A waterfall, the sky and the spirit of freedom became the three simple motifs for this painting. Achieving the sky was the first challenge and when it worked out to my satisfaction on this occasion I pushed ahead with the waterfall and the balloons. I had watched balloons from Sandia Mountain, near Albuquerque and was exhilarated by the sense of pure joy and freedom of the event.

The rock in the foreground took me a week of painstaking work with small sable brushes and then the fish went in to complete the piece. The pool and the fish represented unconscious elements again but also came to signify a simple, "leap for joy".
